I like the large diameter black plastic mounting bar although some have complained that it's difficult to mount accessories that are designed for smaller diameter 1" bars. My only complaint is that tightening the bolts to secure your handlebar clamp must be done with an open-ended wrench (perpendicular to the bolts) so it is impossible to use a torque wrench unless you have access to a 5mm open-end torque wrench ( I have been unable to find one). I have carbon handlebars so it's important not to over-tighten the bolts. Design should be modified to include a hex fitting inside the ends of the bolts.
Great idea; poorly executed. If your bike is free of things like a handlebar bag and other items such that it is easy for you to access the stem screws then this add on is a great product that works well; however if your handlebars are already cluttered you'll probably find yourself in a similar situation to what I faced, which was having to first remove several things just to get access to be able to mount this add on. It seemed easy but to tighten the stems requires a wrench from the side (I had thought the bolts would have tightened from the top, through the bar). Also, the bar on this device is actually made out of plastic. They probably did this to save weight however I would have preferred to have paid more and had it made out of aluminum or even some kind of composite. I over tightened the top screws after getting the unit in place and the bar simply cracked right up the middle making the hour I spent totally useless. I was generally impressed with the design of this add on but disappointed with how it was executed.
A bit heavy compared to other solutions. And a bit troubling to install (if your bars rotate out of position while you're doing this, you need to readjust. And there's no angle adjustment. If you can live with all of that, it's quite ingenious, and works well.
I get it. The bar is a very big diameter... almost cartoonishly big. But the light I use has a large diameter clamp, and so this just wasn't an issue. Easy to install and solid. I like it because with the older Shimano 105 brifters and cables, the extension shoves the light that little bit forward that it avoids intersecting with the beam. I mounted it on the lower set of bolts on the handlebar face plate, and so it winds up just about even with the top of the handlebars. Use it with a VO stem. By mounting it this way, I reclaimed valuable handlebar real estate.
It does what it says, but if you're planning to mount things to this, make sure to note the size. It's large. The bracket for my NiteRider headlight needed to have its bolt backed all the way out to mount on to this. It's much wider than a standard handlebar. Also, the molded plastic bar feels kind of flimsy, but it hasn't fallen apart or anything. It just feels like it's going to.

The black bar is very thick -- it's as big as oversized road bike bars. Also, the mount is fixed at a particular angle because it has to align with either the upper or the lower stem bolt holes. So it won't slip up or down, but the angle can't really be adjusted. But, overall, this mount was a good solution to my problem with in-line brake levers on a cyclocross bike. I have no space to mount a light or bell directly on the bars because of brake cables and brake lever mounts.
Absolutely the perfect solution if you need extra space on your handlebars and use a threadless stem. It screws right into the faceplate of the stem and doesn't shake at all while riding. I have my headlight and computer on it. Very nice.
