The seat is one of the few points of contact with you and the bike, it's important. You want to like it and what it does for you- for the whole ride.
I build bikes as a hobby, side thing, what ever you want to call it.
I used to race, and absolutely love bikes.
I can pretty much identify a bike on sight with a couple seconds, work the build and pricing in my head, appreciating what someone else spent time to make for that person riding that bike- unless they are hanging in a garage or a showroom just sitting there, the saddest place for a bike to be.
Seats are super personal- they don't always make sense for efficiency's sake. Often something that looks like it was a good idea doesn't feel like it's a good idea several miles down the road... a bit like marriage... you don't want a seat that is too cushy. Those won't give you the comfort and support you want after the first mile or so. Too firm is like sitting on a log at a campfire- the wrong way. I just got a cheap chinese carbon seat- no padding at all- and have put it though a couple rides (15miles plus) still trying to figure out if it is worth the weight savings.
I put this seat on a build I put together for my wife, she loves it. She rides her cruiser almost every morning for a couple miles as her routine.
She has never really offered unsolicited comments on the seat, which I have understood that she really likes it. She would have told me, or would have stopped riding a long time ago, that's how we dance.
She has asked my to pack her bike up to take on our vacations, she now likes her bike.
This is not the seat I would pick- mine is what she would call a "tiny itty bitty" . It's a Flite titanium (fixed), or a Brooks Team Pro Ti (road), or the solid carbon (track) bikes... I've tried to get her to sit on and like a lot of bike seats.
It matches her faux leather grips, and simply looks like it rounds out a good build.
