Solid derailleur for a solid price.
Works perfect as a it should. This Deore derailleur is an inexpensive, sturdy and built to last. I Installed it on my 2014 Trek X-Caliber 8. It came with SRAM X5 and X7 shifters and derailleurs. I did not like the way SRAM uses a thumb thumb for shifting. I like the Shimano index shifters. I could of kept the SRAM front derailleur but the Shimano is built better in my opinion. FYI if you don't know already the SRAM rear will not work with the shimano shifters but fronts are interchangeable.

I bought this to cure a problem I created on my new 29er Mountain Bike. I had bought new tires for it to improve the handling and ride. Problem was they were too Big. I purchased the Derailleur because it would allow a better clearance for the oversized tires. Problem solved and works great. It shipped on time and came with directions that made it an easy changeover. One of the best things was the price and what I saved by learning to do it myself.

Shifts smooth and works well. But the adjustment screws are perpendicular to the bike and depending how your bike frame is designed the adjustment screws can be impossible to get to with out stripping the screws. I replaced my screws after i stripped them with allen screws.

Specs say max chainring of 48, maximum capacity of 22 teeth. Bought this to convert my 1997 Specialized HardRock AX from 24,34,42 to 28,38,48. This derailleur is incompatible with my setup, a Sugino/Stronglight road triple. Inner cage rubs against the middle chain ring when shifted onto the large ring (and vice versa), and no amount of adjustment will cure the problem. Cage is both too narrow and too tall/deep.

Probably an excellent derailleur for appropriate applications -- very well made, very strong spring -- just not for this conversion. Thus the four stars.

I was having issues getting my old front derailleur adjusted properly and decided to upgrade to this. From what I can tell, for those of us who aren't obsessed with weight, Deore seems to be the sweetspot for value in the Shimano line. The old derailleur I had was Shimano Altus, and was more than 20 years old. This one seems very solid, with a strong spring, and while I've always had an easier time adjusting rear derailleurs, it adjusted well and shifts great.

As other reviewers noted, I think the worst part of the design is that the cable routing is such that the cable end sticks out away from the bike (and toward your leg) where you attach it. It doesn't interfere with anything as long as you cut the cable relatively close, but in a perfect world you could leave a bit more extra cable sticking out when attaching it. But it's not deal breaker in my view.

It's Deore, it couldn't be worse from the entry level ones. The shifting is very good and it was easy to adjust. On my bike it was a bit tricky to put this on, but once put on, it was smooth sailing from there. Solid derailleur, but better match it up with nice shifters too. I was in luck when my Trek store had an Alivio in stock. It was worth the price. These were all worth the price.
