First sensor bundle received was faulty. The second is fantastic!

First sensor bundle received was faulty. The second is fantastic!
I ordered this Garmin Speed Sensor 2 and Cadence Sensor 2 bundle to use with an indoor spin bike we just purchased. While I knew this use was unconventional and would never be 100% accurate, I had seen videos proving that it works and could be gotten quite close. I wanted to give it a try, as it meant my data would be uploaded from my rides to Garmin Connect automatically. Any adjustments to the data could then be done manually when needed.Unfortunately, the speed sensor in the first bundle I received was faulty. It was too difficult to get it to turn on and connect, much less to send data to my Venu 2s. This proved to be the case even after replacing the battery. I ordered a replacement yesterday and it arrived midday today. This one works great! I'll be sending the one I originally received back today as a defective unit.To use this sensor bundle with an indoor spin bike, you mount the cadence sensor to the pedal stem as usual. For the speed sensor, you need to attach it to a flat or slightly concave wheel surface while ensuring proper clearance. To do this, I removed the rubber casing, then attached heavy-duty velcro to both the back of the sensor and the wheel. The bike we have, a DMason Speed Bike, has plenty of clearance on the left side of the wheel, so that was not an issue.Once the sensors were installed, I connected them both to my Venu 2s and began to adjust the wheel size on my watch for the speed sensor until the speed matched that shown on my bike's computer display. While this works quite well, it won't take any manual tension changes into account, such as when you're simulating an uphill/downhill ride. That said, while our bike's computer has speed, distance, and duration, it does not collect data for grade anyway, since the tension control on our bike is manual. I just note tension and ride difficulty in the activity afterward. The big advantage of this setup is having data from each ride match what's displayed on the bike's computer and upload to Garmin Connect automatically. Even if the data is not as complete as you'd have on an outdoor ride, it's complete enough to allow you to monitor your progress from ride to ride. And, that is good enough for me.
